Further, she volunteers for the Community Legal Assistance Society’s (CLAS) Human Rights Law Clinic as a lawyer reviewer for its Law Student Complaint Drafting Project.
In 2018, Kayla completed her law degree at the University of Victoria, where she published an article in the law school’s journal, volunteered in a few different social justice-oriented education roles, and completed a co-op term with the Squamish Nation. She also conducted research as a volunteer through Pro Bono Students Canada and West Coast LEAF. The UVic Law Students’ Society presented her with the Scales of Justice Award for the student who best demonstrated a balanced approach to their legal education.
